Heat Pump Rebates in Atlantic Canada

Up to $10,000 back from the new federal National Heat Pump Rebate — and up to $22,000 in Newfoundland & Labrador for oil-heated homes. Northern Star installs across Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, and we handle the rebate paperwork with you, start to finish.

The New National Heat Pump Rebate (Federal)

The Government of Canada’s National Heat Pump Rebate is a $2 billion program supporting up to 820,000 households. It is not open for applications yet — the online portal launches in early 2027 — but you do not have to wait to install:

  • Install now, claim later. Eligible heat pumps installed on or after November 1, 2026 qualify retroactively once the portal opens. No payments are made until applications open and are approved.
  • Up to $10,000 for households at or below the income thresholds below. $2,000 for other eligible households.
  • No energy audit required — before or after installation.
  • Your heat pump must be on the federal Eligible Products List, identified by its AHRI number, sized to heat your whole home, and purchased from and installed by an HVAC contractor.
  • Receipts must be submitted within 6 months and must show your name and address, the installing company, the equipment make, model and AHRI number, and the total project cost. Every Northern Star invoice includes the AHRI number — it is exactly what the program asks for.
  • One rebate per household. Homes that previously received federal funding for a heat pump at the same address are not eligible.
  • The rebate can be combined with provincial programs (except programs that already include federal funding — see Newfoundland & Labrador below).
  • The program is expected to close in March 2034. Program details are still being finalized by the Government of Canada and may change.

Income thresholds for the up to $10,000 rebate

Your after-tax household income must be at or below the amount for your province and household size. (After-tax income = line 23600 minus line 43500 on your 2025 tax return, combined for both spouses/partners.)

Province 1 person 2 persons 3 persons 4 persons 5 or more
Newfoundland and Labrador $36,434 $76,704 $109,064 $136,629 $142,622
Nova Scotia $38,831 $80,300 $103,071 $125,843 $131,835
New Brunswick $38,352 $78,502 $104,270 $127,041 $131,835

Newfoundland & Labrador — Oil to Electric (up to $22,000)

If your NL home heats with oil, the takeCHARGE Oil to Electric program is usually the richest route — and it already includes federal funding, so it is claimed instead of the federal rebate, not on top of it.

System Income-qualified General
Central heat pump system Up to $22,000 Up to $9,000
Multi-split heat pump system Up to $18,000 Up to $6,500

Your home must be your primary residence, grid-connected, and heated by oil (program terms include a minimum oil usage over the past 12 months and removal of the oil tank). Approval comes before installation, and funds are paid toward your project once complete. We prepare the application with you.

Nova Scotia — Efficiency Nova Scotia

The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) program closed to new Nova Scotia applicants in 2026 — be cautious of any installer still advertising it. What is available now:

  • Home Energy Assessment rebates and the Moderate Income Rebate through Efficiency Nova Scotia — combined support of up to $5,000 + $5,000 toward a heat pump, depending on eligibility.
  • HomeWarming offers free upgrades for income-qualified households.
  • The new federal rebate stacks with these provincial programs — install an eligible system now and you can claim the federal rebate when the portal opens in early 2027.

New Brunswick — Save Energy NB

  • Total Home Energy Savings Program — rebates toward heat pumps and other upgrades, with a home energy evaluation.
  • Enhanced Energy Savings Program — free energy upgrades for households with income up to $70,000.
  • The new federal rebate stacks with provincial programs in New Brunswick as well.

How Northern Star Handles It

  1. Free in-home assessment. We size the right cold-climate system for your whole home.
  2. Eligibility confirmed up front. We check your household against the federal thresholds and your provincial programs before you commit — one honest number, not a headline.
  3. Paperwork done with you. Applications, AHRI documentation, and invoices formatted the way the programs require.
  4. Financing available through Financeit if you would rather spread the cost out.
